Some girls want to meet Robbie Williams, I’m happy meeting Vivienne Binns. Vivienne is here to install an exhibition at the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery. Last week she told me to call her on her mobile today so we could work out a time for a chat. I kept ringing her and she’d say, “I haven’t left Canberra” or “I’m still on the road”. I found her in the gallery, unpacking boxes, at about 5 o clock. She had an old file of newsletters from 1981, when she was going around the central west living in a long caravan running community arts workshops. She took me through the file, page by page. An hour later gallery director Richard Perram shooed us out of the building. We’d only just begun!
